Philippine Sugar Research Institute Foundation, Inc. is a private sector initiative created through the efforts of the National Council of Sugar Producers. It was a response to Executive Order No. 18 dated May 28, 1986, which mandates that sugarcane research, development and extension activities be the responsibility of the private sector.
PHILSURIN was incorporated and duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on August 11, 1995.
It is funded by the PhP 2.00 per Lkg (50 kilo bag) sugar contributions from all sugar producers as contained in Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) Sugar Order No. 2, series of 1995. Other sources are donor agencies here and abroad.
PHILSURIN is a team of individuals committed to the pursuit of providing essential scientific information and state-of-the-art technology to the Philippine sugar industry. We have three headquarters: the Makati office in Manila, Victorias Experiment Station in Negros Occidental, and the Bacolod Office also in Negros. We also have 21 Mill District Development Councils situated in key sugarcane areas nationwide.
