Organization

Philippine Sugar Research Institute (PHILSURIN) Foundation, Inc. is a private sector initiative created through the efforts of the National Council of Sugar Producers. It was a response to Executive Order No. 18 issued on May 28, 1986, which mandates that sugarcane research, development and extension activities be the responsibility of the private sector. Thus, PHILSURIN as a non-stock and non-profit corporation, aims to promote the growth and development of the sugar industry through greater and significant participation of the private sector.

PHILSURIN was incorporated and duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on August 11, 1995. It is funded by the 2.00(PhP) per Lkg (50 kilo bag) sugar contributions from all sugar producers as contained in Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) Sugar Order No. 2, series of 1995. Other sources are donor agencies here and abroad.

PHILSURIN has a Breeding Station housed at the Victorias Milling Compound in Negros Occidental. The governing body of the Foundation, Inc. is the Board of Directors. The Board and its Executive and Finance Committee and its Sugar Development Council meet several times each year.
